I’ve been teaching realistic self defense for years, not only to special forces soldiers, but to my martial arts students, police and security firms and I have always hammered home the fact that you must train for reality. Anything you do in a training situation is exactly how you are preparing yourself to react to a life threatening attack.
The problem is…
The majority of people conduct their training based on one attacker. Great for being able to handle that BUT what if there is another loonatic that’s going to go for you at the same time?
You are going to be in deep trouble!
I got a phone call from an ex student of a well known combat martial arts system who said that he had got a ‘massive hiding’ and ended up in hospital after he left a nightclub and was walking to his car.
Basically what happened was that he was ‘set up’ by one bloke who drew his attention and threw a punch at him whilst the other 2 lurking in the shadows went ‘in for the kill.’
The first attacker was quickly smashed to the ground but, no sooner had this happened then the other 2 were at him – it was lucky he wasn’t killed. Chance had it that there was a police car patrolling the area that frightened the attackers away before they could apprehend them.
This simple tactic used by the attackers easily defeated a highly trained martial arts student because he had handled the attack like a sporting competition.
The focus was on the first attacker only.
You must always treat every confrontation as having multiple attackers. You need to be taught how to defend yourself from all angles and to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Don’t make the mistake of just training to deal with one attacker – it will cost you dearly – train with multiple attackers and you will survive..
